Guadalupe Rios, born on December 10, 1944, in Ni de Aqui, Ni de Alla, USA, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, in Fontana, California. She was a vibrant soul, with dancing legs to match, just not ones for the dance floor. Her laughter had a way of absorbing you into the conversation from afar. Lupe, as she rather be called, approached life head on with a wisdom that was not learned from a textbook. Giving her two cents when she could, like it or not, and calling it how she saw it. She guided those around her with street smarts and abrupt humor. Throughout her life, Lupe would help those around her the best she could, sometimes with a place to stay, or even if it was just coffee and conversation. She exhibited a remarkable ability to be two steps ahead in conversation, all the while the other person would be confused on the answer just given. She would wait patiently with a cigarette in one hand, looking at your facial expression going from confusion to laugher as they caught up to speed on the punch line. Many phone calls were spent on worldly debates or her fond attraction for plants and what times to water them. She could talk for hours to family on pretty much any subject, but mostly gossip, that’s what caught her interest. If she felt she lost your attention in the conversation, it would end with a “give me a call later, when you have time.” She loved going to “church”, just not the one most visit on a Sunday or give thanks to, actually the opposite. She would say “I’m giving my donations,” and it was to the casino, going with family and friends, letting off some steam. She enjoyed the simplest of pleasures—sharing stories, cigarette in hand, smoke and laughter filling the air, and of course, enjoying a glass of wine paired with soda or a bud light, whatever was on the menu. She was a tough woman, but with a loving soul. You could say she graduated from the school of hard knocks with honors. Lupe’s greatest pride and joy came from her beloved family. Her children Duane Foster and Monica Velez, along with her grandchildren—Anthony Foster, Joseph Rodriguez, Valerie Taylor, Ronni Marie Garcia, Humberto Velez Jr, Yesenia Velez—and her great-grandchildren—Adaline Taylor and Esperanza Frankie Velez—were the center of her universe. They were her proudest accomplishments, illuminating her life with their love and vibrant energy. Lupe is mourned by her immediate family and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her and earn her trust. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ronald Franklin Foster of 51 years, her parents, Luis Rios and Maria Covarrubias, her stepfather Ruben Carrillo, and siblings Guille Garcia and Luis Rios (Toro) who have welcomed her into their eternal embrace. She is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, great grand-daughters, and siblings—Abel Rios, Martha Ramirez, Maria Zavala, Leonor Rios, and Rigo Sanchez. A visitation will be held on September 27, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Fontana Mortuary, located at 8030 Mango Avenue, Fontana CA 92336. A mass will follow from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM on the same day. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate the life of a remarkable women who touched so many hearts. Though she may have departed this world, her spirit, laughter and love will continue to resonate in the lives of her family and friends forever. Guadalupe Rios was a tapestry of memories woven with love, laughter, and the simple joys that make life beautiful. Her legacy will live on in the stories shared, the laughter echoed, and the love that unites those she leaves behind.
